Pick any color, get its code
Grab a color from your screen or a photo, copy it as HEX, RGB, HSL or CMYK, and check that text on it is easy to read. Your images stay on your device.
Your color
Picking from anywhere on your screen only works in Chrome, Edge and Opera on a computer. You can still take a screenshot and drop it in below.
* CMYK here is a simple screen-to-print estimate, not a conversion with a printer's color profile. Ask your print shop for exact numbers.

Is text readable on it?
Normal text: the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
Large text: pack my box with five dozen jugs.
0:1
| Level | Normal text | Large text |
|---|---|---|
| AA | ||
| AAA |
Uses the WCAG 2 contrast formula. AA needs 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (24px, or 19px bold). AAA needs 7:1 and 4.5:1. Icons and input borders need 3:1: .
Your color is see-through, so it's checked as it looks laid over the background.

Questions
Why don't I see "Pick from screen"?
It uses a browser feature that only Chrome, Edge and Opera on a computer have right now. Safari, Firefox and phone browsers don't offer it. Take a screenshot instead and drop or paste it into "Pick from an image".
Why is my color a little different from another app?
Before reading a pixel, your browser converts the image to sRGB, the color space web pages use, so the code you copy shows the same color in CSS. iPhone photos and Mac screenshots often use a wider space called Display P3, and very vivid colors from them get pulled to the nearest sRGB color. JPG compression also nudges pixels, so zoom in and pick from a flat area.
Can I send the CMYK numbers to a printer?
Use them as a rough starting point only. They come from a simple formula. Real print colors depend on the paper, the ink and the printer's color profile, so your print shop or a design app with their profile will give different, better numbers.
What do AA and AAA mean?
They're the pass levels in WCAG 2, the accessibility guidelines most audits and laws point to. AA is the usual target: 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. AAA is stricter: 7:1 and 4.5:1. The check here follows the WCAG 2 formula exactly. Newer methods like APCA give different numbers.
Where are my recent colors saved?
In this browser's local storage, on this device only. They don't sync to your other devices and they're never sent anywhere. Press Clear to delete them. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings does the same.
Big photos look soft on my phone. Why?
To stay inside what phone browsers can handle, photos over 16 megapixels are scaled down on phones (over 50 megapixels on computers) before you pick. That can blend tiny details. Crop the photo or use a screenshot if you need an exact pixel. HEIC photos only open in Safari. In other browsers, turn them into JPGs first, for example with heic.lol, which also works without uploading.
